Turramurra House

A COMFORTABLE FAMILY HOME THAT RETAINS THE SOUL OF ITS ORIGINAL ARCHITECTURE.

What began as a modest cottage with a confusing floor plan and compromised cross ventilation became a charming post war 1916 Californian Bungalow lovingly brought back to life. Retaining the striking stained glass windows and four rooms at the heart of the cottage, we added a front entry and portico, a large open plan living area and doubled the stairway height space, allowing the air to flow perfectly throughout the home. Other features include operable roof louvres on the rear terrace and exterior venetians to control the northern light. The relaxing family home now maximises the serene views to the tree-filled backyard and new swimming pool.

“We worked with Nerida Bawtree Design on a recent project in Turramurra. Having working with many architects over the years, Nerida is certainly one of the best.

We found that Nerida, as the owner of a boutique firm, was intimately involved in all facets of the recent build. She excels not only in contract management, but design detail. Nerida prepared all of the contract drawings, detail drawings throughout the build and as such had a strong connection to the build and pride in the outcome. Nerida was present at all site meetings rather than a representative.

An important part of any project is communication between the architect, builder and client in order to keep momentum. Throughout the build Nerida was easy to reach on the phone and addressed all of our emails within a 24hr period.

Nerida’s personable and approachable nature combined with her love for architecture and design made our experience with Bawtree Design very enjoyable. I look forward to working with Nerida again in the future and would highly recommend her to anyone looking to renovate or build a new home.”
